Family History

My parents met each other in a rather unusual way. My dad put an advertisement in the Mother Earth News and my mom responded just to see what would happen. They were both Mormons at the time and also kind of hippies. My dad was living in Oregon and my mom in the Bay Area of California. Well the interesting thing is that last Saturday while at a yardsale Andrew and I found the very issue with the advertisment. So of course we bought it. It was only twenty- five cents. It was really fun to find it.

The month and year

The ad itself. LDS man, 29, seeks Lds woman, 22-32, marriage; share Oregon homestead...
So that is how my parents met.

Our Big Chickens

Our chickens are doing well and it is almost time to butcher them. Our layers are also doing good, although we lost a couple to a predator.

Back Door Herbs

A few herbs in pots right out my back door. Very handy.

Garden Strawberries

We have had some trouble with our garden. The cabbages were destroyed and the beans were nearly gone also. We had some corn disappearing along with lettuce and beets. We discovered our problem was cutworms, so we began going out after dark and picking them off. The first several nights we found hundreds. Now the population seems to be reducing. We are trying to be diligent so we can get a harvest. One thing that has been doing well are the stawberries. We have been enjoying the ripe berries this past week.

Happy Birthday

On Saturday evening we went over to celebrate Andrew's dads birthday. Luke made a good dinner, I helped Aleah make a pie, then we watched a funny movie and of course there were gifts.
Enjoying a good meal

Farm Auction

We had a chance to go to an auction nearby last week. It was very interesting to listen to the auctioneer and ty to keep track of who was bidding. We got some good deals on a few things. We got a pressure canner, some oil lamps, a file cabinet and a few other things.

The Drive In

A couple weekends ago Andrew and I went to see the new Night at the Museum at the drive in theater. I had never been toa drive in before. It was lots of fun. The movie wasn't as funny as the first on but still fun to watch. We stayed for part of the second feature the new Terminator, too. But it was hard to follow and we were getting tired so we left before the end.
We brought a lot of snacks with us and had a great time.

Painting with Andrew

On Thursday I had the chance to go to work with Andrew. I did a lot of painting on a long board fence. Andrew worked on that with me as well as fixing a little fence in front and painting some shutters brown.

The fence Andrew repaired and also painted.

The fence I worked on all day.

Cleaning up the paint supplies.

We were doing the projects for a sweet older lady and afterwards she gave me a big bouquet of peonies.
